Jiah Khan's mother Rabia moves SC against Bombay HC order seeking further probe into daughter's death

On June 3, 2013, Jiah Khan was found dead at her residence in Juhu, Mumbai. The body of 25-year-old actress was found hanging from the ceiling of her room.

In the latest development in Jiah Khan suicide case, Rabia Khan, mother of the late actress has moved to the Supreme Court and filed a special leave petition challenging Bombay High Court’s order refusing further investigation in the case.

Earlier on February 9, Bombay High Court rejected the petition filed by Rabia Khan demanding special investigation team (SIT) probe in the death.

A bench comprising of judges, Ranjit More and Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi stated that there is no need to get in the way of the probe which is being done by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). A detailed report on the order of the bench is expected to be made public by February 9 evening.

On June 3, 2013, Jiah was found dead at her residence in Juhu, Mumbai. The body of 25-year-old actress was found hanging from the ceiling of the house. Actor and Jiah’s alleged boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi was arrested on June 10, for abetting the suicide and was released on July 2 after the High Court granted him bail.

Earlier too Rabia Khan had demanded SIT probe with the help of Federal Bureau of Investigation claiming that Jiah was a US citizen. Since the beginning of the case Rabia has maintained that Jiah’s death is a case of murder and Sooraj should be charged for it under section 302.

However, Sooraj has been charged under the section 306 of IPC, for abetment of suicide. The trial on which was stayed by the division bench of the HC on hearing Rabiya’s petition in February 2016.

Subhash Jha, Rabia’s lawyer has also demanded a SIT probe and said that charge sheet filed by CBI also states that the actress death was not a homicide.
