Is Anushka Sharma's Phillauri inspired by Johnny Depp-voiced animated flick Corpse Bride?

Is the story line of Anushka Sharma-starrer Phillauri inspired by 2005 Hollywood animated Corpse Bride, which featured Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter?

Anushka Sharma will be essaying the role of a ghost in her upcoming production venture Phillauri. The trailer of the film was unveiled on 6th February and has raked in more than 5 million views on YouTube. Several Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan have praised the teaser of the film.

Anushka plays a ghost who confronts a prospective groom (Suraj Sharma) who gets married to a tree. The film directed by Anshai Lal also features Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh. Now, while watching the trailer we wonder whether the plot has anything to do with 2005 Hollywood animated flick Corpse Bride.

Directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton, the film had Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter lending their voices. Carter plays a bride called Emily who rises from the grave and claims that she is Victor’s (Depp) bride. It happens after he ties the ring to the root of a fallen tree. As far as the trailer is concerned, the plot looks a bit similar. The film is Anushka’s second production venture after NH 10 which earned rave reviews.

Going by trailer, we get to know that she plays a friendly ghost in the film. Bollywood is replete with films when the actors have donned the role of spirits who are harmless. Remember Amitabh Bachchan in Bhootnath and Bhootnath Returns? Or Naseeruddin Shah in Chamatkar? Even Shah Rukh Khan played a ghost in Paheli, which was India’s official entry to the Oscars.
