5 things about Phillauri trailer that prove the Anushka Sharma-Diljit Dosanjh starrer will be cracker of a film

Phillauri seems like a simple love story with a thoughtful take on superstition. The chemistry between Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh is the highlight

The trailer of Anushka Sharma’s second production venture — Phillauri is out. Also featuring Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Pirzada in the lead, the film is a romantic-comedy set in the Phillaur village of Punjab. Directed by Anshai Lal, the film has Anushka playing the character of Shashi, a friendly spirit who haunts a soon-to-be-married man, claiming that he has married her while following a Manglik ritual with a tree. What follows next, brings humour in the story and chaos in Suraj’s life. However, the narrative takes a beautiful turn when it goes back to show the love-story of Shashi and her Mirza-sque lover.

Phillauri looks like a breath of fresh air. A story away from the meaningless action and imposed emotions, the film’s USP seems to be lying in its simplicity. Here are a few things from its trailer that makes Phillauri a distinctively striking film:

A ghost story never looked so thoughtful

Phillauri takes a dig at highly followed, Hindu Manglik rituals. Anushka’s character claims that the man married her while he was getting married to the tree since she was living on the tree.

Punjab in Phillauri is picturesque

The love story of Diljit Dosanjh and Anushka Sharma is shown in the Punjab of hay days. Dusky tint and desi magic, the village locales form the highlight of the film’s setting.

Let’s all take a moment to appreciate Diljit Dosanjh

He is a good actor and a singer and he gets to showcase both these talents in Phillauri. Diljit plays the character of a singer in the film and his chemistry with Anushka is simply serene.

And humour

Phillauri seems to have an understated humour. The trailer underlines scenes which make you laugh but are not very loud on being hilarious. Humour is subtle here.

And curiosity

The trailer of the film doesn’t reveal it all. It hints that something tragic had happened in the love story of Anushka and Diljit which builds curiosity around its narrative.

Produced by Clean Slate Films and Fox Star Studios, Phillauri is slated for release on 24 March.
