Cong-SP alliance deal sealed, announcement soon; Sheila Dixit to quit now!

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that both the parties will fight the upcoming state assembly election as an alliance.

Just a day after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav won the battle to own the Party symbol, another big and long-awaited deal was cracked as Congress has given its clear indication of going hand in hand with Samajwadi Party, as an alliance in the upcoming assembly elections.

Speaking at an event, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that both the parties will fight the upcoming state assembly election as an alliance. He said,”There will be a Congress and SP alliance in the upcoming UP elections. Details about it will be decided in coming days, for now, it can be said there will be Cong-SP alliance under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav.”

A few minutes later to this much-awaited announcement, Congress’ chief minister candidate Sheila Dixit gave another shock to her party saying that she would like to quit as one alliance couldn’t have 2 faces for the supreme post. “I would like to gracefully withdraw as a chief minister candidate, as we cannot have 2 candidates for a single post in the elections.”

Earlier this month, the former Delhi CM, in an interview given to NDTV, had already said that if both parties get on the same line and ally for the elections, then she would quit as a CM candidate.

According to an IndaTV report, the deal has almost been finalized with SP offering 95 to 105 seats to Congress and latter agreeing to it. The sources have also said that Akhilesh had recently met Congress vice-present Rahul Gandhi and poll strategist Prashant Kishor would seal the deal.
