Punjab Polls: Is AAP thinking to project Bhagwant Mann as CM candidate?

Mann will be contesting from Jalalabad constituency against Shiromani Akali Dal candidate and current Punjab deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.

A few days before the state assembly polls in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party has given indirect indications of projecting comedian turned politician Bhagwant Mann in the upcoming elections. Meanwhile, the Punjab AAP leader is successfully garnering while campaigning across the state.

Earlier, AAP leader and Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia had said that if the party wins the assembly elections, the Chief Minister will be from Punjab. On the other hand, Lambi candidate Jarnail Singh had said that AAP’s chief minister face will be a “turban-wearing Sikh”.

Now under such circumstances, 40-year-old Mann fits the best in the scene. Moreover, Mann will be contesting from Jalalabad constituency against Shiromani Akali Dal candidate and current Punjab deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal which is being considered as one of the toughest battle-grounds in the upcoming elections.

According to an NDTV report, when Mann was asked whether he could be projected for the top post of the state, he didn’t deny the chances. he said,”I never said that I will be Chief Minister. Public is there and they will say what they need. Our leadership had said that they will decide. So let’s wait now.”

The only thing which is stopping the AAP leadership from declaring Mann as its prime Chief Ministerial face is his parliament live stream. Mann was suspended for a day and faced serious attacks from opposition including the Akali Dal and Congress for exposing parliament to a security threat. However, the party stood on his side for the entire episode.

Bhagwant Mann’s seat from Sangrur parliamentary constitunecy was one of four seats won by AAP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Since, the party had captured all its Lok Sabha seats from Punjab and now hopes to conquer the assembly elections s well.
