Singh started his political career in 2002 when he was elected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly from his home constituency

Amid the political battle in the state of Manipur, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) chief minister candidate Nongthombam Biren is reportedly set to take oath as the CM of Manipur on March 15. Apart from Biren other council of ministers will also take oath in Imphal.

Senior party leaders including BJP president Amit Shah Union minister Jitendra Singh are expected to attend the oath taking ceremony. Thies comes days after the state threw a fractured verdict in the Manipur Assembly elections 2017. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 1 PM. On Sunday, BJP announced tha Biren was their Chief Ministerial candidate for Manipur.

Like Goa, Congress turned out to be the single largest party by winning more number of seats in the assembly elections. However, none of the parties could not attain majority in the polls. With the support of the local parties, BJP staked claim to form a government in the state. Following which, Congress claimed that BJP was only stealing people’s mandate.

Asserting that the Congress was only putting false allegations on her, Manipur Governor said,”In my 37 years in Parliament and when I was in Congress and worked with non-Congress government, never have such allegations been put on me.”

Singh started his political career in 2002 when he was elected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly from his home constituency, Heingang, as a Democratic Revolutionary Peoples Party candidate. He made his debut as a minister in the state in 2003 when was appointed as the minister of state for vigilance.
