We asked youngsters a fake question about alcohol ban, their responses will leave you speechless

Is banning alcohol really a solution to the problem?!

The Supreme Court of India in a landmark judgement on March 31, 2017, banned hotels and restaurants within 500 metres on either side of the state and national highways from serving liquor. The judgement invited furore across the nation. While many pointed out that thousands of people across the nation have now lost their jobs, the judgement also raised concerns among industry insiders who fear that the step would have a drastic impact on revenue.

Following the judgement, even the luxury hotels located near National Highway 8 in Gurugram, including the Leela Ambience, Crowne Plaza and the Oberoi stopped serving alcohol even in their room services.

At a time when the issue has become a burning topic of debate, we hit the streets to find out what the youth had to say about the alcohol ban. Here’s the twist though. We told the youngsters that Modi government has linked the purchase of alcohol at stores and in bars with the Aadhaar card. So to buy booze, you would need an Aadhaar card. And once you make the purchase, a notification regarding the same would be automatically sent to their respective guardians. When asked for their reactions in lieu of such a ruling, these college goers came up with the most astonishing replies.

Most of the people supported this (hypothetical) plan while asserting that the alcohol should be banned from the country. While some of them believed that it wouldn’t have a significant impact on the occasional drinkers, there were others who admitted that they would have to change their habits (in the fear of their parents finding out).

On the other hand, there were some who believed that such a move would never work out in our country as even the underage youngsters could procure alcohol with ease (shh! don’t tell that to anyone).

The common notion serves that the gen X is all about alcohol and chilling out, reactions supporting alcohol ban come as a complete shock and exposes the stereotypes and the pre-existing notions existing in the society. Granted that drunk driving has taken countless lives and there should be more strict measures to counter it, however, we must remember that banning alcohol is not a solution to this problem for it’s not the alcohol itself but its the abuse that causes the problem.

So, choose wisely and live well!
