While We Boast Of Our 'Connections', World's 2nd-Richest Man Stands In Line For Food

With an estimated net worth of over $96 billion, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is the world's second-richest person

With an estimated net worth of over $96 billion, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is the world’s second-richest person according to Forbes, second only to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. And that fact netizens repeatedly pointed out after seeing a picture of him standing in line to get some burgers and fries.

The picture, posted on Facebook by former Microsoft employee Mike Galos on January 15, shows Gates standing in a line outside a takeaway joint in Seattle, US to collect food. The picture has since gone viral. Contrasting Gates’ humility with the reported behaviour of current US President Donald Trump, Galos wrote in the post,

“When you’re worth about $100,000,000,000, run the largest charity in the history of the world and stand in line for a burger, fries and Coke at Dick’s like the rest of us…”

Here’s how people on social media reacted to the viral photo:

After co-founding the software firm Microsoft in 1975, Gates became a billionaire at the age of 31. Except for four years, he held the Forbes title of the richest person in the world from 1995 to 2017. He stepped down as chairman of Microsoft in February 2014 and has since pursued a number of philanthropic endeavours through Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, donating to various charitable organizations and scientific research programs. In 2009, he co-founded The Giving Pledge with Warren Buffet, through which they and other billionaires pledge to give at least half of their wealth to philanthropy.
