2 Foreigners in Bollywood – Johan Bartoli and Hampus Bergqvist have become an internet sensation in India for their fondness of Bollywood and adventurous journey in a foreign country. Originally from Sweden, the duo took a leap of faith after their graduation and decided to settle in Mumbai. It may seem like a crazy story to you – two young Business Management grads leaving everything to try their luck in Bollywood, but to Johan and Hampus their journey has been exciting and totally worth it.
While calling their parody videos of everyday idiosyncrasies of Indians and it neither involves abusive language (hello AIB), the same old jokes about frustrated men in relationships (hello almost every comedian ever), nor does it in anyway ever feel like a take-down of Indian culture. It’s fun and funny without ever being insulting. And in a country that loves to take offence, that’s quite a feat.
When not giving auditions (btw they have been part of few mainstream Hindi films like Rangoon, Rustom and Banjo), Johan and Hampus are known to make hilarious videos where they are perfectly enacting things that are innately Indian. The videos may touch the strings of Indian stereotypes (right or wrong) but are always funny. Their social media account ‘2 Foreigners in Bollywood’ has amassed an insane number of loyal followers who are very encouraging of their work.
This particular video describes how to sell desi daru to foreigners. The video is hilarious and so on point. It features an Indian man who tricks them into drinking the exquisite desi maal instead of regular beer and even dupes them into paying Rs 5000 for a bottle of desi daru.
