Why This Cricketer Will Not Be Credited With A Century After Scoring 115 Runs

Sophie Devine was invincible against Hobart Hurricanes!

Sophie Devine was in form of her life during the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) clash between Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes on January 8. No bowler could manage to get her wicket throughout the match. At the end, Sophie scored 115 runs but could not register a T20 century. The reason behind it is that she scored 99 runs in the first innings followed by 16 runs in the super over.

The New Zealand batter carried her bat in the first innings scoring 99 runs off 53 deliveries including 10 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 186.79. She was desperate to reach her WBBL century as she took on Heather Knight scoring 22 runs off the last over.

Her innings took Adelaide to a total of 189 in the first innings but the scores were tied at the end of second innings. The match went into the superover. Adelaide needed 13 runs off 6 balls and the Kiwi batter was an automatic choice for the job. She made it look easy hitting 2 sixes off the first balls and then edging one behind the stumps for a boundary.

The 29-year-old tried to be modest after her spectacular display with the bat,

“My nerves are a bit shot, to be honest,” Devine said after the game. “I just swung my arms and it went our way.”
