Why Serena Williams Got Furious At US Open Final

Williams, who has been accused of cheating, said she's a victim of sexism.

Tennis legend Serena Williams got embroiled in a controversy on Saturday during the US Open final match. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam winner was accused of cheating in the match where she lost to Japan’s Naomi Osaka 6-2, 6-4. She was given code violation for receiving coaching during the match. She was also penalised for racquet abuse during the commotion.

Williams had a heated exchange with chair umpire Carlos Ramos whom she called ‘a liar and a thief’. While denying all the accusations against her, she said that she has been a victim of sexism and discrimination based on gender.  The ace tennis star who got teary-eyed also demanded an apology from Ramos for the same. But, on the other hand, her coach Patrick Mouratoglou admitted to unfairly coaching her during the game

The incident sparked an outrage across all media platforms with many calling it Serena’s ‘meltdown’. Twitteratti criticised her on-field behaviour for taking away the limelight from Osaka’s first-ever Grand Slam victory.
