The eleventh edition of India’s T20I league, Indian Premier League (IPL) is slated to take place from April 4 to May 31, 2018. The proposal came at an IPL governing council meeting held in New Delhi on October 24. Though the final call would be made on November 14.

In the IPL governing council meeting it was also proposed that the eight IPL franchises could be allowed to retain up to three players.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the eight IPL franchises could be allowed to retain a combination of two Indian and an overseas player or two overseas and an Indian player.

According to ANI,

The matter can be further discussed at the meeting scheduled next week, before making a final call on November 14 with all eight franchises.

The new development, if it comes into effect, would benefit the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) who are back in the fray after serving a two-year suspension and are looking forward to retaining certain players.

The Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions that replaced the above two teams will not be part of the new IPL season.

Earlier in September this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) found a new broadcaster of the IPL 2018. Out of the 24 participants of the media right auction, Star India turned out to be the highest bidder and bagged the broadcasting rights along with the digital rights with a Rs 1,6347.50 crore deal.

There were 24 companies in the fray which picked up the Invitation To Tender (ITT) to participate in the bid for the broadcast and digital rights in global markets and across the Indian subcontinent for the next five years.
