Presenting The 'Art Of Ignoring Haters', Courtesy Indian All-Rounder Stuart Binny

If only Stuart Binny had enough deliveries left to chase down the total. Maybe Rahane will send him up the order next time.

On several occasions in the last few years, Indian all-rounder Stuart Binny has been tagged as ‘undeserving’ of the Indian jersey. While he may not a swashbuckling player, Binny seems to be doing a fine job of ignoring the negativity and focusing on his process to deliver for his team when the situation demands it.

In Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) clash yesterday, Binny walked in to bat at a tricky situation. RR needed 50 runs off 17 deliveries. He was on strike with 49 needed off 16 balls. The match was heading towards a dull end until the all-rounder reignited the runchase with flair.

He scored a boundary off the first ball he faced. No biggie, right? But then he struck a six off Shami the very next ball. Next over, skipper Ajinkya Rahane got out. It was a tough ask from the RR player but he gave it his best shot. He struck two sixes off Arshdeep Singh’s bowling in the penultimate over.

In the last over Shreyas Gopal got out off the first ball. 23 needed off 5 balls was too much to ask from a player who was batting for the first time in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. Eventually KXIP lost the match by 13 runs but Binny’s contribution was vital as they wouldn’t be in the game till the last over if it wasn’t for him.

The 34-year-old scored 33 runs off 11 deliveries at an impressive strike rate of 300 and remained not out. Twitterati were impressed with Binny’s destructive innings:

They even sent Jofra Archer ahead of him

The GOT reference had to be there

The comparison

Another one

And he earned brownie points for this one

Payback!

It was a shame he couldn’t finish the game

But few people refuse to learn, don’t they?

This was his second match this season. Binny didn’t get to bat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and bowled just one over, giving 6 runs. With RR in the bottom half of the table, Binny should get more chances to showcase his talent.
