Why We Are All Worried About Prithvi Shaw's Nasty Injury

It's a shame that we won't be able to see Prithvi Shaw bat at the Adelaide Oval

19-year-old Prithvi Shaw picked up a nasty injury during practice match against Cricket Australia XI on November 30 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In the first session of Day 3 of the match, Shaw tried to take a catch on the boundary ropes and twisted his left ankle 90 degrees inwards. As soon as he hit the ground, he was visibly in pain, holding his left knee.

India’s physio Patrick Farhat rushed to Shaw, along with India’s fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar. The Mumbai youngster was carried off the field by Farhat and Sridhar.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the details as injury led to him being ruled out of the first Test starting December 6. Here’s an excerpt from the press release,

Shaw underwent scans this morning and the reports revealed a lateral ligament injury. Shaw will be unavailable for the First Test against Australia in Adelaide. He will undergo an intensive rehabilitation program to hasten the recovery and be available for selection at the earliest.

The Indian opener was in line to play his first Test after a half-century in the practice match, 66 runs off 69 deliveries. After his successful debut against West Indies in October, cricket pundits were looking forward to see how he fares against the Aussie bowling attack in overseas conditions.
