Smith played 108 innings to bring up his 22nd Test ton, which makes him third in the list behind Sunil Gavaskar (101) and Don Bradman (58)

Steven Smith continued his brilliance as he registered his second double hundred in Tests and also brought up his highest individual score in Tests. He remains unbeaten at stumps on Day 3 on 229 runs, along with Mitchell Marsh, who brought up his maiden Test hundred in front of his home crowd at WACA, Perth. England is already trailing 0-2 in the ongoing Ashes series. The captain of Australia Smith has been in outstanding form ever since he took over the reigns of captaincy from Michael Clarke.

Smith’s double hundred saw him eclipse many records and some records that stood for decades. With 5,764 being the previous record of the most Test runs scored after 108 innings, held by West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers since 1968. When Smith reached 208 in the final session he passed that mark. What a feat!

Smith played 108 innings to bring up his 22nd Test ton, which makes him third in the list behind Sunil Gavaskar (101) and Don Bradman (58).

Smith broke a personal record when he reached his hundred as this was his fastest Test hundred, it came off 138 balls. His previous best was the 142-ball hundred against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2014.

Smith has also scored in excess of 1000 runs in four consecutive calendar years (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) which makes him the second person to do so after Matthew Hayden.

Smith has now scored 3 Test centuries at WACA, Perth, which is at equal terms with David Warner, who co-owns the record.

Smith’s 200 came up off 301 balls, and was the quickest Ashes double-century for Australia in almost 80 years, since the 257-ball 200 scored by Stan McCabe in Nottingham in 1938.
