Afghanistan team have suffered a big blow as they have failed to qualify for World Cup 2019. Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan lost all the three matches at the group stage and made a surprise exit from the tournament. With close matches against Zimbabwe and losing comprehensively against Scotland and surprisingly Hong Kong, they don’t have a chance to make it into the knockout stages of the tournament.
Rashid who became the youngest ODI captain in the history of cricket, expressed his disappointment in the post-match press conference on March 8.
Afghanistan were quite unlucky right from the start as they lost their skipper Asghar Stanikzai after undergoing appendectomy surgery. It was followed by wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad getting banned for two matches by ICC after getting four demerit points.
Afghanistan have had a phenomenal series in the limited overs circuit. Their players have been doing well in the T20 leagues across the globe. That is one of the reasons why fans had high hopes from the team.
