Roger Federer wins Australian Open 2018: Tweets, memes, messages that hailed his 20th Grand Slam

It is still so vivid in my memory when last year he said that he does not believe he will get past the quarter-finals in 2018, and look what happened

“You guys make me nervous. You guys make me practice. You guys fill the stadiums. Thank you.”

This is exactly what Roger Federer said after winning the Australian Open 2018, which happens to be his 20th Grand Slam. 36 is not an age tennis players peak in tennis, it is an age, that in most cases marks the twilight of a tennis players career if they have not yet thrown in the towel. That is exactly what separates the phenomena called Roger Federer from his contemporaries.

It was his sixth Australian Open title and his 20th Grand Slam singles title on January 28, defeating Marin Cilic, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. The win also made him the oldest man to win the coveted Australian Open. One thing is for sure, Federer has, like Serena Williams redefined tennis once and for all. He has pushed the bar really high, becoming the only male tennis player in the history to win 20 Grand Slams. Three women have already done it.
