18-year-old Prithvi Shaw finally made his international debut for the senior side today. And it was nothing short of a fairytale. Shaw’s journey to the international side has been a rags to riches story. But the Virar local made his debut hundred seem like a walk in the park.
The 18-year-old might have got to the three figures against a depleted Windies bowling attack, but it’s still on an international platform. The same bowling attack which was able to get the wicket of KL Rahul for a duck. Taking anything away from the youngster citing an inexperienced opposition and home conditions will be unfair because Shaw is inexperienced too.
Here are a list of records and feats Shaw achieved in his debut innings (134 runs off 154 deliveries) in chronological order:
1. Shaw became the youngest specialist Indian batsman to debut in 21st century (18 years and 329 days).
2. Second-youngest Indian player to open the innings for India on Test debut. The youngest being Vijay Mehra (17 years and 265 days)
3. Shaw got to the half-century mark in just 56 balls. He has the fourth-fastest fifty for an Indian debutante.
4. Shaw is youngest to score more than 50 runs on Test debut. The previous-best was by Abbas Ali Baig (20 years and 126 days).
5. Shaw is the second-youngest Indian batsman to score a Test century after Sachin Tendulkar and 7th overall.
6. Shaw has third-fastest century by a batsman on Test debut (99 balls). The record is held by Shikhar Dhawan who scored a century off just 85 balls on Test debut.
7. Shaw became the first player to score a century on Ranji Trophy debut, Duleep Trophy debut and Test debut.
8. The soon to be 19-year-old has the third-highest score by an Indian batsman on Test debut. Shikhar Dhawan (185) and Rohit Sharma (177) are the first two.
9. Shaw is also 15th Indian batsman to score a century on Test debut and 105th overall.
10. And last but not the least, he is the youngest Indian batsman to score a Test century.

The Under-19 World Cup-winning captain may have another chance in the second innings if Windies play well. He may break the record of most runs by an Indian batsman on Test debut which still belongs to Dhawan.
