The ongoing ICC World Cup qualifiers witnessed an unknown cricketer entering records books during the league match between Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Ireland. PNG opener Tony Ura scored a magnificent century and ended up scoring 151 to help his team which was struggling against the Irish bowling attack. With the help of his extraordinary knock, PNG posted a total of 235 runs after getting all out while Ura entered the club of batsmen who scored most runs of the team’s total.

In this very match, Ura scored 64.3 percent runs of the team total and surpassed New Zealand’s Andrew Jones who scored 63.5 percent of his respective team’s total against Pakistan back in 1990. He scored 47 runs while the entire Kiwi team bundled up at a low total of 74 runs.

After this knock, Ura became the fourth batsman in world cricket to reach this feat after some big names on the likes of Sir Vivian Richards, Kapil Dev and Rohit Sharma.

Here’s the list of 5 such players:

After batting first, PNG lost their first batsman in the second over itself with just 2 runs on the board. The Irish bowlers kept on picking wickets at regular intervals and dismissed 6 batsmen of the opposition in under 100 runs.

Despite losing wickets at the other end, Ura took the responsibility of maximising his team’s score on his shoulders and ensured that his team withstand 50 overs. Ura did not just hold on to one end but scored at a strike rate of over 100 against Irish bowlers.

After scoring 151 runs off 142 balls, including 6 sixes and 10 fours, Ura lost his wicket to Kevin O’Brien in the last over.
