Meet Malaikah Gul Dev, 15-Year-Old Gold Medallist From Jammu & Kashmir In Skiing

Malaikah Gul Dev is a 9th grade student of Delhi Public School, Srinagar

Malaikah Gul Dev, the 15-year-old girl from Kashmir scripted history by winning a gold medal in Annual Women’s Alpine Skiing, Advanced Level Dream Programmed in Seoul, South Korea. Malaikah achieved the feat on December 28, 2018 in a tournament which had 155 participants from 55 countries.

Malaikah started skiing at a tender age of three. Her father, Gul Mustafa Dev, the first Olympian from Kashmir introduced her daughter to skiing. Gul Dev represented India in 1988 Calagary Olympics. He trained her daughter along with other skiers in Gulmarg.

The 15-year-old was ecstatic after winning the gold medal as she said, “It is a great feeling to win a gold medal in an international programme. So I am proud of myself and I am proud of my father.”

Malaikah is currently a 9th grade student at Delhi Public School, Srinagar. She started taking the sport seriously after bagging a gold medal few years ago.

She recently participated in first Asia International Water Sports for children in Russia. She was among 15 athletes in Team India to participate in the event. Unfortunately, she suffered an injury during the event and could not get the podium finish.

However, she aspires to win medals for India in Olympics and carry on her father’s legacy.
