KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya To Donate Rs 20 Lakh To Charity For Sexist Comments On Kofee With Karan

Apt punishment for the Koffee buddies?

KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya’s appearance on television talk show Koffee with Karan stirred up a storm over sexist comments . The duo were in trouble straight away as they were criticised and suspended from the national side missing ODIs, T2oIs in Australia and New Zealand. As a result, BCCI Ombudsman D.K. Jain has directed Rahul and Pandya to donate Rs 20 lakh each in charity.

The charity is divided into two parts. They will pay Rs 1 lakh each to windows of 10 constables in paramilitary forces who have lost their lives on duty. The second part will be donated to fund created for promotion of cricket among the visually impaired.

According to IANS, the ombudsman has also said that if both the players fail to do so within four weeks from the date of the receipt of the order, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India might deduct the said amount from the match fees payable to the players.

The ombudsman also noted that the players have suffered monetary loss in the shape of earnings/match fees worth Rs 30 lakh (approximately) when they were sent back from Australia tour. He also noted that both the players apologised for their comments and accepted the sanctions against them without any protest.

Both the players are currently playing in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 for their respective franchises. They have also been selected in India’s squad for upcoming World Cup 2019. The dynamic duo will be looking to put the controversy behind them and focus on the task at hand.
