JP Duminy scores 37 runs in a single over, makes a statement before IPL 2018 auction

JP Duminy entered the history books by scoring 37 runs in an over in List A cricket

JP Duminy etched his name in the books by scoring a record-breaking 37 runs in a single over in List A cricket. It was an ordinary domestic One Day match between Knights and Cape Cobras at the Cape Town until Duminy’s innings. Knights scored 239 for 9 in the first innings and Cobras were heading towards a comprehensive win chasing a modest total. But Duminy made it memorable by hitting 5 sixes in an over.

It was in the 37th over of the innings which also happened to be the last over of Cobras’ innings. They needed just 34 runs to win the match. Duminy felt that they could cash in and get a bonus point by scoring the runs quickly. He went for an absolute onslaught against 31-year-old Eddie Leie.

Duminy slammed four sixes in a row followed by a couple of runs. Under pressure, Leie bowled a no ball which was struck by Duminy for a boundary. The left-handed batsman then made the most of the last delivery and hit a six to finish the match off in style. He ended up hitting the second-most number of runs in an over in the history of List A cricket.

Here’s what Duminy said after achieving this feat –

It is not every day you get the opportunity, so of course I was trying to go for the six sixes in an over. I initially thought it was all about the bonus point. I looked up at the scoreboard and we needed 35 with four overs still to go to get the bonus point, so I just decided to take Eddie on. I was striking the ball really cleanly, and when the first two went for six, I figured I might as well give it a full go now because regardless whether I get out we would still have secured the bonus point. It was enjoyable.
