IPL 2018, RR vs DD, Match 6: Gautam Gambhir Needs Just One 50 To Break David Warner's All-time Record!

IPL 2018, RR vs DD: Delhi Daredevils captain Gautam Gambhir has a chance at surpassing Rohit Sharma and David Warner with just one half-century

Delhi Daredevils (DD) skipper Gautam Gambhir started off the season on a high despite his team’s loss to Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in their first Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 match. Gambhir scored 55 runs off 42 balls and held on to one end while wickets kept falling from the other end. If DD skipper scores one more half-century, he will go past Australian opener David Warner’s all-time IPL record of most fifties.

Both Gambhir and Warner have 36 half-centuries in IPL so far. One more century will take Gambhir past Warner’s tally. The former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper was not allowed to play in IPL by Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) after the ball-tampering fiasco in South Africa that led to his one-year ban from Cricket Australia.

Here’s the list of top five contenders for most fifties in IPL —

David Warner – 36
Gautam Gambhir – 36
Rohit Sharma – 32
Suresh Raina – 31
Virat Kohli – 30

Gambhir has a chance to overtake Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma as well. He needs 36 more runs to go past Rohit’s tally of runs scored in IPL. While Gambhir has 4,187 runs, Rohit has 4,222 runs. With the form Gambhir is in, he is expected to surpass Rohit in the clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
