IPL 2018, RCB vs MI: Rohit Sharma Takes Brilliant Catch Millimetres Off The Ground — Watch

IPL 2018, RCB vs MI, Match 31: Rohit Sharma deserved a few fair play points after asking the umpire to refer the catch to the third umpire

Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma becomes the first captain to successfully review a catch taken by him in IPL history. Quinton de Kock took on Mitchell McClenaghan in the fifth over. De Kock tried muscling the ball on the leg side but could not get much elevation. As a result, he struck it low towards short mid-wicket fielder — Rohit Sharma.

Rohit half-dived forwards and caught it just millimetres off the ground. There was a little confusion on whether Rohit took the catch on the full or on the bounce. The umpire’s soft signal was ‘out’ after he asked Rohit whether he took it clean or not. Rohit, in turn, asked the umpire to refer it to the third umpire.

Here’s the video of the dismissal —

With this catch, Rohit went past AB de Villiers and became the fielder with second-most number of catches taken in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) De Villiers is out of the RCB side due to illness. ABD has 76 catches, whereas Rohit has 77 catches now. He is only behind Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) Suresh Raina who has 89 catches.

De Kock was struggling against MI bowlers, especially the spinners. He could score only 7 runs from 13 balls and that is why he was trying to break free by hitting a boundary off the last ball of the fifth over.
