IPL 2018 Final: Suresh Raina Sets New Fielding Record In IPL Finals, Surpasses Ravindra Jadeja

IPL 2018 Final, CSK vs SRH: Suresh Raina made his 8th appearance in final of IPL across all seasons playing for Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina has been a part of every Indian Premier League (IPL) final played by the franchise. Raina took a fabulous catch at covers position to dismiss Shakib Al Hasan in the 16th over of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) innings. With that catch, Raina became the fielder with most catches in finals of IPL. Before IPL 2018, Raina shared the top spot with teammate Ravindra Jadeja.

Raina’s fielding has been a highlight of his career. The southpaw has 95 catches from 176 matches. He is followed by Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Rohit Sharma (79 catches), Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) AB de Villiers (78 catches), MI’s Kieron Pollard (74 catches) and CSK’s Dwayne Bravo (69 catches).

The 34-year-old has a ratio of 0.542 catches per innings. The most catches taken by him in an innings are 3 behind Sachin Tendulkar, David Warner and Jacques Kallis who have taken 4 catches in an innings each.

Raina is approaching another milestone. He may become the first batsman to reach the 5,000-runs mark in the history of IPL, beating Kohli in the race. Before the final, he needed 47 runs to reach the milestone. He is the only batsman to score 300 runs or more in every season of IPL.
