IPL 2017: Delhi Daredevils' player Rishabh Pant's father passes away in Roorkee

Delhi Daredevils' fiery batsman Rishabh Pant had to rush to Roorkee as his 53-year-old passes away on April 5

Delhi Daredevils’ explosive batsman Rishabh Pant’s father passes away on April 5’s night. The youngster was in Delhi practising with the franchise under former Indian player and DD’s mentor Rahul Dravid. On hearing the news of his father’s demise, Pant rushed to his Roorkee residence at Ashok Nagar.

Pant’s father was 53-year-old and had an untimely dead. Her wife Saroj Pant was having dinner with daughter Sakshi Pant. They went to wake up Pant’s father but he did not respond. They rushed him to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Pant’s father Rajendra Pant’s body was cremated in Haridwar on April 6.

According to a leading news publishing website, a family friend of Pant’s family, Satish Negi said, “Rajendra died in his sleep apparently of a heart attack. He was complaining of fatigue for the past few days. He retired to his room on Wednesday but when family members tried to wake him up for the dinner, he did not respond. He was taken to a private clinic which declared him brought dead.”

Pant was expected to play for DD in their opening match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bengaluru on April 8. There are clouds over his availability for DD’s first match.

Pant made his IPL debut for DD scoring 198 runs in 10 matches at an average of 24.75. Pant is crucial for DD’s success in this tournament. They fell short of a win to reach the qualifiers in the previous season.

Pant has also featured in India’s T20I side, he made his debut against England in the 3rd T20I during India vs England three-match T20I series in 2017.
