IPL 10 MI v GL Match Report: McCullum's 64 didn't work for Gujarat, Mumbai wins by 6 wickets

With this victory, MI now stands at the top of the points tally with 4 wins and 8 points

It seems that Kieron Pollard has taken an oath to win every match for the Mumbai Indians with his bat and that too within a fraction of seconds. What he did in the last game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he continued it again against the Gujarat Lions (GL) in the game number 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 10 and in return, MI won the game by 6 wickets. Pollard played another big inning of 39 runs and hit 3 sixes and 2 fours.

Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. With McCullum’s extraordinary 64 and Karthik’s 48, the Gujarat Lions set a target of 177 runs for Mumbai to chase. In return, the Mumbai opening pair was struck by pacer Praveen Yadav in the second ball of the second inning. Parthiv Patel was dismissed for a golden duck by Kumar. Nitish Rana came in at number 3 and along with Jose Buttler, he carried the inning forward like a boss. Both Rana and Buttler added 85 runs for the first wicket where Rana hit the second half-century of IPL 10. He not only crossed the 50 run milestone but also became the top scorer of this season’s IPL with 193 total runs. Rana hit 2 sixes and 4 fours and scored 53 but was unfortunately dismissed by Andrew Tye.

When the total score was 92-3, Jos Buttler had to return to the pavilion as Munaf Patel dismissed him at 26. After his dismissal, the big man Pollard and skipper Rohit Sharma took over the crease and both of them added 68 runs for the 4 wickets which included a lightning bolt fast inning of Kieron Pollard who scored 39 off of just 23 balls.

In the 19th over, when only 17 runs were needed to chase in 11 balls, the hat-trick taker from the last game -Andrew Tye – dismissed Pollard as he went for another big shot but was caught by Ravindra Jadeja in the deep.

With skipper Rohit Sharma’s 40 runs and Hardik’s lucky touch, Mumbai beats Gujarat by 6 wickets.

With this victory, MI now stands at the top of the points tally with 4 wins and 8 points.
