The Western derby started with Mumbai Indians winning the toss and opting to field. MI are at the top of the points table but the last time the two teams met, Mumbai Indians lost. Rising Pune Supergiant got off to a solid start 37 after 5 overs. Rahane was sensible, he was taking on the loose balls, Tripathi on the hand, was happy playing second fiddle. Rahane was finally dismissed for 32 by Karn Sharma, caught and bowled. Tripathi’s good innings was cut short when he was on 45 by Karn Sharma again.
What was surprising was that after a long time, Steven Smith was bowled by Harbhajan Singh that really set them back, they were 104 for 3 at that stage. Ben Stokes joined Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the ticking of the score started, they were looking to play as many dot balls as possible. Karn Sharma, who is making his this season debut, picked up 2 wickets for 39 runs in 4 overs. Harbhajan Singh was economical as ever, he gave away 20 runs in his 4 overs and picked up the most important wicket of Steve Smith. Johnson conceded 34 runs in his quota of 4 overs and picked up a wicket as well. Manoj Tiwary made his presence felt as he kept run-scoring and adding important runs, 22 to be precise. McClenaghan who was a star in the last game, went for 36 runs of his 4 overs but he did not get a wicket. Mumbai Indians need 161 to win.
