IPL 2017: World's No.1 ODI bowler Imran Tahir finally gets picked by Rising Pune Supergiants

Imran Tahir finally got his worth for his hard work as he got picked up by Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for the 10th edition of IPL

Mitchell Marsh’s exclusion from the Rising Pune Supergiants side opens the gates for World’s no.1 ODI bowler Imran Tahir. The South African leg-spinner remained unsold after Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2017 which created a stir among fans. Marsh’s shoulder injury forced RPS to pick a player from Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) from where Tahir got picked up.

No franchise bedded for Tahir despite him being in a tremendous form against New Zealand in the T20 series. It hit everyone as a shock as he was not picked up despite a base price of Rs. 50 lakh which was pretty low when compared to other foreign players. Tahir was released in December 2016 by Delhi Daredevils (DD).

Tahir was under-utilised by DD in the previous edition of IPL as they missed the qualifiers stage by a whisker. Tahir is currently placed at no.1 spot in ICC ODI bowler Rankings with 750 rating points. There is none in contention as of now as the No.2 bowler Sunil Narine and Mitchell Starc have 700 rating points.

Tahir must be ecstatic after he got the news of getting picked in RPS squad on March 23. He will be playing under the captaincy of Australian skipper Steven Smith as former captain MS Dhoni was relieved of his leadership duties in the team a day before IPL Auction 2017.

Including Tahir can be considered as a good move from RPS but it they will be left with a choice between picking Adam Zampa or Tahir in the team. Both the overseas players are good at tweaking the ball and deceiving the batsmen. Tahir’s fans will be hoping he does not get underused by RPS like DD did in IPL 2016 edition.
