ICC Launches Hotline, Appeals For Information On Suspected Fixer Aneel Munawar

If the claims of Aneel Munawar are true, it will be a big blow for cricketing fraternity and fans

International Cricket Council (ICC) has launched an appeal to help them find the suspected match-fixer Aneel Munawar. The alleged fixer was the centrepiece of Al Jazeera’s documentary in which he claimed to fix matches. The video which was launched on the same day as Indian Premier League (IPL 2018 final spread like wildfire.

Alex Marshall, General Manager ICC ACU (Anti Corruption Unit), said,

“We have identified every other person in the original documentary and have spoken to a number of them in connection with match-fixing, including those who are not deemed to be participants under our Anti-Corruption Code.

The Indian national is still out of the grasp of ICC,

“However the true identity of Aneel Munawar remains a mystery. He plays a significant role in the programme, yet enquiries with law enforcement and immigration sources have not identified or located him.

“As such we are appealing to the public or anyone from within the cricket family to contact us with any information that will lead us to identify and locate him. Police investigations often use such an appeal to locate people of interest and we are exercising the same approach.

In the documentary, Munawar even claimed that a few Australian players under-performed in India vs Australia Test series (2017). As ACU digs deeper into the case we might see a few shocking revelations.
