The first day of the Zimbabwe vs West Indies was entirely dominated by the hosts as they restrict the Caribbean within 219 runs in 82.5 overs. Home team skipper Graeme Cremer bowled a phenomenal spell of 23.5 overs and took 4 wickets and conceded 64 runs. After Cremer, Sean Willaims turned out to be the 2nd highest wicket-taker who removed 3 batsmen including West Indies skipper Jason Holder. Apart from Cremer and Williams, Kyle Jarvis, Solomon Mire and Sikandar Raza got one wicket each.
The West Indies batting line-up looked struggling in front of the Zimbabwe bowling attack. The opening pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell could only 14 runs to the first wicket. However, Powell went on to score a half-century. He ended up scoring 56 runs off 133 balls. Later, Shai Hope continued his good form and balanced his team’s trembling batting. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get a rock-solid support from the other end and could only score 90 runs and remained unbeaten.
By the end of day 1, Zimbabwe scored 19 runs without losing a wicket and are trailing by 200 runs. Openers Hamilton Masakadza and Solomon Mire to resume the inning on Day 2.
