'Will Celebrate 2019 Independence Day With World Cup Trophy', Says Sarfaraz Ahmed

Pakistan will kick-start their 2019 World Cup campaign against Windies at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on May 31

There are about 300 days till the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 begins in England, but the mind games for one of the biggest tournaments of the sport have already begun.

A day after former cricketer Mohammad Yousuf picked Pakistan as his favourite team to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, current Pakistan skipper Sarafaraz Ahmed, too, said that the team is now aiming to lift the World Cup.

While talking to media reporters, Sarafarz said that they will celebrate the 2019 Independence Day with the World Cup trophy.

“We celebrated the 2017 Independence Day with the Champions Trophy by beating India in the finals. Now, we will be hoping the celebrate the 2019 Independence Day with the WC Trophy,” (sic) Sarfaraz said.

Pakistan were the underdogs in the Champions Trophy, but made a commendable comeback to clinch the title from India in the finals.

The 1992 World Cup winners, Pakistan will kick-start their 2019 World Cup campaign against Windies at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on May 31.

They will face arch-rivals India on June 16 at Old Trafford, Manchester.

The World Cup will witness 48 matches in all. Each team will play nine group stage matches and the top four will progress to the semifinals.

The finals will be played on July 14, 2019, at the iconic Lord’s.
