Virat Kohli is all set to make his 200th ODI appearance. Here are the records he can break to make it memorable

Virat Kohli is also the highest run-getter in the ODIs in the year 2017. Till date, he has scored a total of 1197 runs in 23 innings with an average of 74.81

With the first ODI against New Zealand on October 22, Indian skipper Virat Kohli will play the 200th ODI of his career. The year 2017 has been an extraordinary one for him as, under his captaincy, Team India hadn’t lost a single ODI bilateral series. Earlier, in the month of January, he became the captain of the Indian cricket team across all the three formats after Mahendra Singh Dhoni stepped down from his post after 9 years.

There have been many legends who failed to balance the responsibility of captaincy and their on-field performance. But Virat has set an example and set the standards high for the upcoming generations. After master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, he is on the level overall with Ricky Ponting’s 30 ODI hundreds. While Ponting had already said goodbye to the international cricket, there is a long way to go for Kohli as the Indian skipper is only 28-year-old.

Kohli is also the highest run-getter in the ODIs in the year 2017. Till date, he has scored a total of 1197 runs in 23 innings with an average of 74.81. He has scored 4 centuries and 7  half-centuries and hit a total of 18 sixes and 115 fours. English skipper Joe Root stands at the second position with 983 runs in just 19 games.

Let’s have a look at the comparison of Kohli with other cricketing legends in terms of achievements in 199 ODI innings:

In the upcoming series, Virat Kohli needs 6 more sixes to become the 8th Indian and 33rd overall to hit 100 ODI sixes. Also, Kohli is going to be the next batsman after Virender Sehwag and AB de Villiers to enter their 200th ODI with a strike rate in excess of 100. He also has a chance to surpass Ponting in terms of the total number of centuries in ODIs in his 200th appearance for the Indian cricket team.

With the series going to start from October 22, all eyes will be on the Indian skipper as it’s the first ODI bilateral series for India against the Kiwis under Kohli’s captaincy. India has a fair chance to conquer this as well to get back the first position in the ICC rankings yet again.
