At the end of the fourth day at Ranchi it seemed that the pendulum had swung in India’s favour as the pitch was allowing the ball to fizz and spin. But on the last day it seemed that India are well on their way to taking a 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar trophy but that was not to be. Some of the well known pundits of the game blamed the pitch, they said it was playing slow and was coming onto the bat well. On this during the press conference, Virat Kohli took a total U-turn by claiming that it was the SG ball which surprisingly became softer and that helped the accomplished Australian batsman.
During the press conference the pin-up boy of Indian cricket Virat said, “I don’t think it was the wicket, it was the ball. Soft, not doing much”.
Adding further Virat Kohli said, “In the middle session the ball was not hard, so we could not generate that kind of pace from the wicket.”
During the match he also made head lines for his injured shoulder and also an incident where the media highlighted how Steven Smith mocked Virat by holding on his shoulders.
He also credited the visitors for their gritty effort and said, “But I don’t want to take any credit away from their effort. They batted very well.”
