Veda Krishnamurthy records her highest WBBL score, helps Hobart Hurricanes to their first win of the season

Veda Krishnamurthy ended her WBBL 2017-18 stint with a bang leading her team to their first victory in this season after a series of losses

India’s attacking middle-order batter Veda Krishnamurthy recorded her highest score in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2017-18 season. In a match between Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades, Krishnamurthy scored 40 runs from 35 balls at a strike rate of 114.29 including 6 boundaries. She missed out on a half-century and got run out trying to complete the second run. Krishnamurthy is finally getting into the form she is known for in T20 cricket.

It was a crucial innings for Hobart Hurricanes as they suffered a major batting collapse losing 6 wickets in a matter of 11 runs. When she got out, the score was 97 for 4 in the 15th over. Hobart could manage to score a modest total of 120 runs in the first innings.

The 25-year-old dropped at the score of 32 but could not make the most of it missing out on her maiden half-century in the T20 league. Here are a few videos of her innings:

Melbourne Renegades could not chase down the total as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Ammy Sattherthwaite stayed till the end but could not lead her team to the victory. She scored 65 runs from 58 balls including 9 boundaries. Melbourne Renegades fell short of 4 runs.

Hobart recently lost to Melbourne by 10 wickets on January 14, 2018. They managed to avenge their defeat in the very next match and recorded their first victory in the league after 9 consecutive losses.

Krishnamurthy has scored 144 runs from 9 matches at an average of 18 including two scores above 30s. Her score of 40 was not less than a century given the circumstances of the match. She will not be taking part in WBBL 2017-18 and this was her last match in the season. We might see her playing in Senior T20 League soon for Karnataka before she prepares for India’s tour of South Africa.
