Trinbago Knight Riders, St Lucia Stars Equal World Record; Most Number Of Sixes In A T20 Match

The match should be remembered as a bowler's nightmare come true

T20 cricket is all about fours and sixes. The Caribbean batsmen especially rely on hitting sixes to score most of their runs in the shortest format of the game. In the 9th match of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2018 between St Lucia Stars and Trinbago Knight Riders, history was created. A total of 34 sixes were hit in the match which is the joint-highest in T20 history.

In the first innings, St Lucia Stars batsmen struck 16 sixes. Here’s the break-up of the sixes hit by their batsmen — Kieron Pollard (7), Rahkeem Cornwall (5), David Warner (3) and Andre Fletcher (1). They scored 212 runs in the first innings including half-centuries from Warner, Cornwall and Pollard.

Trinbago Knight Riders’ top order was not effective. It was the partnership for the fourth wicket between Brendon McCullum and Darren Bravo which revived the run chase. McCullum was at his usual attacking self-hitting 6 sixes in his 42-ball 68. Bravo played an innings of a lifetime recording his highest innings score.

The left-handed batsman scored 94 runs from 36 balls at a strike rate of 261.11 including 10 sixes. He remained not out and took his team home with one ball to spare. The second innings had 18 sixes in total including one six each from Sunil Narine and Denesh Ramdin.

The last instance when 34 sixes were hit in a T20 game was in 2016. It was a match between Otago and Central Districts which included centuries from Hamish Rutherford and Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene. However, the scores were different. A total of 497 runs were scored in that match in comparison to the CPL clash in which 430 runs were scored.
