In a new turn of events, Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri now wants Sachin Tendulkar to be Team India’s consultant for overseas tour. Earlier Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Rahul Dravid as batting consultant for Team India’s overseas tours. According to Indian Express, Ravi Shastri’s this demand came after he convinced BCCI to sign up the assistant coaches of his choice. BCCI on July 18 appointed Bharath Arun over Zaheer Khan as Team India’s bowling coach. There is no clarity over the roles of Dravid and Zaheer yet.
However, the decision on Sachin Tendulkar’s role with Team India is not yet clear. Final decision is yet to be taken by the BCCI.
Sachin Tendulkar, alongside Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, is part of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which recommended the names of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan as consultants and appointed Ravi Shastri as the Head Coach.
Earlier, there were reports that Sachin Tendulkar was the only member from the CAC, who had been pressing for Ravi Shastri’s appointment as Team India’s head coach.
BCCI on July 18 in a press conference appointed Bharath Arun as India’s bowling coach, Sanjay Bangar as the assistant coach. Indian Cricket Team’s physio Patrick Farhat, trainer Shankar Basu and fielding coach R Sridhar have given extended contracts of 2 years. BCCI’s secretary Amitabh Choudhary made the announcement as he shared the stage with India’s Head Coach Ravi Shastri and CEO Rahul Johri.
Apart from Ravi Shastri, former Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag, Lalchand Rajput, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody, former Pakistan and Bangladesh coach Richard Pybus and former West Indies coach Phil Simmons also applied for the post.
