Sania Mirza knows why Virat-Anushka married 'secretly' in Italy

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli are both high-profile personalities and hence all eyes would have been on them

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has supported the decision of recently married star couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma of tying their knot quietly and away from public glare.

Speaking to PTI about the couple, Mirza said complications owing to the high profile marriages must have forced them to hold the marriage ceremony in Italy. However, the 31-year-old tennis player was quick to add that the couple can’t avoid media hype entirely.

Mirza told PTI,

High profile marriages are obviously a little bit complicated in terms of dealing with so much of outside stuff, it’s not just internal. They obviously realised how the media hype would be here so they went to Italy. At some point, they have to face it.

With speculations rife about their marriage, Virat Kohli, earlier this month, had taken a break from cricket, to take some rest from the field. However, the real reason for his break became public on December 11 when the star couple tied the knot in Tuscany, Italy. The ceremony was a low-key affair attended only by the couple’s family and close friends.

Mirza also weighed on the media’s hyped interest in the celebrity marriages and the additional stress it brings on the couple.

I don’t cherish media hype at all. Shaadi gives enough stress anyway. My sister got married, it was not high profile yet still it was very stressful. The fact is, it’s really amazing – Virat and Anushka. It’s known that they’ve been together for a long time and what better it is when two people who love each other get married.

On being asked whether she will attend the newlywed’s reception, Mirza said she’s unsure.

“I know them both personally, they are amazing together. They are amazing separately as well. They are amazing people and I wish them all the best. I don’t know. I will not be in the country. I am leaving on December 21, I’ll be in Dubai.”

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma will get back to work soon. While Virat Kohli would be leaving for South Africa for their upcoming series, Anushka will be busy with her 2018 release ‘Pari’.
