IPL 2018: Winner of the Emerging Player Award will get Rs 10 Lakh as prize money

Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2018 is all set to enter in the playoff stage. The matches between the franchises are getting competitive day-by-day as no team has yet fixed their berth in the playoffs.

Besides the competition for the trophy, the race among the youngsters for getting the Emerging Player Award is also getting interesting. Players like Mumbai Indians’ (MI) latest spin sensation Mayank Markande and Delhi Daredevils’ (DD) new recruit Prithvi Shaw among others are competing to get their hold on this award.

In all, there are 24 players this year who are competing for this prestigious award.

In order to be eligible for the Emerging Player Award, a player must meet all four of the following requirements:

  • Born after April 1, 1992
  • Played 5 or fewer Test matches
  • Played in 25 or fewer IPL matches (as of the start of the season)
  • Not previously won the Emerging Player Award

The Emerging Player Award will be given by the BCCI to the player who has best demonstrated his talent through his performance during the season.

To select the winner, IPL organisers are also running a poll for their viewers to select a player they think deserves to win the prestigious award after the conclusion of the IPL season 2018. According to the poll on IPLt20.com, Mayank Markande is leading with 27 percent of the vote share, followed by Delhi’s Rishabh Pant with 20 percent and Prithvi Shaw is third with 14 percent.

All the three youngsters have managed to impress cricket fans across the globe with their talent in the ongoing IPL.

Mayank Markande
Right-arm leg-break bowler is being applauded for the way he has bowled so far in the tournament. In 10 games played, the 20-year-old bagged 13 wickets at an economy of 7.96. Quite impressive for a youngster!

Rishabh Pant
The 20-year-old batsman is also making his mark with his bat in the ongoing IPL 2018 season. While playing for Delhi Daredevils, Pant has so far scored 393 runs in 10 games. He is at number 3 on the list of ‘Most Runs By a Batsman’ in IPL 2018.

Prithvi Shaw
Captain of Indian U-19 World Cup-winning team, Shaw has been getting the runs at the top order. He has so far 205 runs under his belt in 5 games he played so far. He got the chance after DD’s skipper Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the captaincy.

With the IPL 2018 finals still 21 days away, the voting percentages are bound to change. The winner will be selected by a combination of the public vote on www.iplt20.com and the choice of the television commentators.

The winner will get Rs 10 Lakh as prize money.
