IPL 2018: Chris Gayle Hammers 1st Century of IPL 2018 against SRH

IPL 2018, KXIP vs SRH: The 38-year-old Gayle hammered a brilliant 100 runs (not out) off 58 balls for the Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) opening batsman Chris Gayle scored the first century of the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Punjab Cricket Association/IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on April 19. Gayle achieved this feat during an IPL encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

The 38-year-old Gayle, who opened the innings for Punjab, hammered a brilliant 100 runs off 58 balls for KXIP. This is Gayle’s 6th ton in IPL. Gayle’smarvellouss knock included only one four and 11 huge sixes.

Gayle, who was bought by KXIP at his base price of Rs 2 crore during this year’s players’ auction, smashed SRH bowlers all around the park.

He also smashed SRH’s leading spinner Rashid Khan for four consecutive sixes in an over.

The left-handed Gayle remained not out for 104 off 63 balls.

“I dedicate my knock to my daughter,” Gayle said during the innings break.

Meanwhile, KXIP set a 194-run target for SRH to chase.

Earlier, KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and opted to bat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 16th match of the IPL 2018 season.

While Kings XI Punjab’s lineup remained unchanged, Hyderabad have included medium pacer Chris Jordan instead of Billy Stanlake.
