IPL 2017: Sachin, Sourav, Laxman, Sehwag and Dravid - the 'Fab Five' to be felicitated on opening day

The Indian Premier League is all set to commence from April 5 with the open blockbuster game between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Hyderabad. While the opening ceremony is gilded with a special attraction as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to honour the ‘Fab Five’ of the Indian Cricket on April 5.

The Fab Five, including former skipper Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, who successfully represent the golden era of the Indian cricket in 1990 and early 2000s. These five gems will be present on the opening day and will be honoured by the Indian cricket board.

This decision was taken in the Governing Council (GC) Meeting of the IPL on March 23 which took place in the presence of the Committee of Administrators (CoA). The meeting was chaired IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla who later spoke the media personnel and confirmed the same.

Former Indian women cricketers selected for a one-time ex-gratia payment from the BCCI will also receive their cheques during the IPL games.

The meeting held yesterday also came up with finalising the venues for the finals and play-offs. Mumbai would host the First Qualifier and the Eliminators is scheduled in Bangalore. While the final of IPL-10 is scheduled in Hyderabad.

The tenth edition of the IPL is going to start from April 5 and will conclude on May 21. The tournament will start with David Warner led SRH playing against Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore RCB. The defending champions SRH will be hosting the IPL 2017 opener.
