Indian women squad for South Africa tour announced, Mithali Raj to lead, Jemimah Rodrigues gets maiden call

Besides ODIs, Indian women's team are set to play five T20Is against South Africa as well

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on January 10 announced the Indian women’s cricket squad for the three-match ODI series in South Africa beginning February 5.

Mithali Raj will lead the 16-member squad while Harmanpreet Kaur will be her deputy.

17-year-old Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored 84 runs from 93 balls at a strike rate of 90.32 in the just concluded Challengers Series 2018, has gotten her maiden call. Besides her 84-run knock, Jemimah also scored a double century in the Under-19 One Day Competition held in 2017.

Let’s take a look at her centuries:

  • 202 runs from 163 balls vs Saurashtra
  • 178 runs from 142 balls vs Gujarat
  • 153 runs from 138 balls vs Rajasthan

Besides Jemimah, the selectors have also picked up a backup wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatia.
