Twitter flooded with jokes and memes as Shikhar Dhawan's innings makes Sri Lankan bowlers gasping for breath

India bettered Sri Lanka in every department of the game beating them by a record win, chasing down the total with 127 balls to spare

Shikhar Dhawan’s purple catch continues to haunt Sri Lankan bowlers day and night as he hits another blistering knock. They will be hoping that he never came back as a replacement for Murali Vijay post his injury and stayed back in Hong Kong. But there is nothing that can be done as the Gabbar is going through a purple patch. He manhandled Sri Lankan bowlers scoring 132 runs from 90 balls featuring 3 towering sixes and 18 fours. Dhawan’s innings and India’s record win in terms of balls to spare gave Twitterati a reason to troll Sri Lankan team yet again.

It looked too easy for India to chase down a total of 217. Everyone knows that according to the new brand of cricket that teams are following, the norm is to score 300 or more. Even 350 is not safe as the batsmen have become aggressive in nature and back themselves to chase down these big scores. But 217 is still a score that can make batsmen toil for runs, especially on a subcontinent pitch with overcast conditions ruling out the possibility of the due factor coming into play.

However, Sri Lankan bowlers were not at all upto the job as their bowlers could not take even one wicket. The only breakthrough they got was of Rohit Sharma who was dismissed by a direct hit and that too when his bat got stuck in front of the crease.

Earlier Sri Lankan openers made the most of the opportunity while batting first as they did not give Indian bowlers a chance to settle in the powerplay overs. They put on an opening stand of 73 and laid down a foundation for a big score.

Kusal Mendis too chipped in when it mattered but got out after getting a good start. Only Niroshan Dickwella scored an half-century. Sri Lanka suffered from a batting collapse and ended up getting bundled out for 216.
