On one hand, the critics say that MS Dhoni has lost his charm as a batsman as a match finisher for India while on the other hand, all-time best Indian wicketkeeper is setting world records with every ODI game he is playing. On August 31, Mahendra Singh Dhoni represented India for the 300th time in One Day Internationals against Sri Lanka and remained not out after scoring 49 runs. Though he couldn’t score his 66th half-century, he became the only batsman to remain not out for the most number of times in ODIs.
After today’s inning against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, MS Dhoni surpassed former South African skipper Shaun Pollock and Sri Lanka’s former speedster Chaminda Vaas to mark 73rd unbeaten innings. Former Aussie batsman Michael Bevan remains at no. 3 with 67 unbeaten innings.
In addition, Dhoni now holds the record of most unbeaten knocks in successful ODI run chases. He remained not out for 40 times while chasing and later India won. He left behind Jonty Rhodes (33), Inzamam-ul-Haq (32) and Ricky Ponting (31) in this race.
Earlier this day, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. It was for the first time in this ODI series that Kohli chose to bat instead of bowling after winning the toss. Team India had an early blow as Shikhar Dhawan, who has been playing phenomenally in the series, got dismissed early after scoring only 4 runs. Virat Kohli, who came in at number 3, played a superb cricket along with Rohit Sharma.
Kohli ended up scoring 131 runs off 96 balls before he was dismissed by Lasith Malinga which was his 300th wicket in One Day Internationals. Later, Rohit Sharma also knocked the 13th century of his career while Manish Pandey hit a half-century which was his 2nd in ODIs.
