Hardik Pandya's father did not expect his son to score a record-breaking century against Sri Lanka

Hardik Pandya's father shares his thoughts on his son's maiden record-breaking Test century in Pallekele Test against Sri Lanka

Hardik Pandya scored a record-breaking century against Sri Lanka in the third Test at Pallekele and etched his name in the record books. Though the innings was not expected to be as ferocious as in the previous two Tests, Hardik Pandya’s batting slaughter was something that came both as unexpected and as a relief. Pandya’s father, Himanshu Pandya, like everyone who was glued to the match, was spellbound with his son’s ‘Man of the Match’ worthy innings.

Pandya’s father was surprised by what his son did at Pallekele. He told mid-day, “I didn’t expect this century so early in his career, but I am confident about his good show as he is improving day by day. I was enjoying the match with the family members on TV, but we did not expect him to score such a T20-like knock to reach his century. The way he played after his 50 was superb. We enjoyed his century,”

Pandya broke many records when he hit a century, which was his maiden First-Class century and also the fastest century by any Indian batting at No. 8 position. Pandya later picked up the wicket of Angelo Mathews to strengthen his claim for the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

Pandya and his father recently made headlines when Hardik gifted him a Jeep car. His father was surprised when from Hardik video-called him and gave him the gift, leaving him both ecstatic and proud. Hardik shared a series of tweets and to express his love and gratitude towards his father in making him the man he is today.

Himanshu further shared his thoughts on the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final loss against Pakistan, he said, “If Hardik would only have played like he did today against Pakistan in that Champions Trophy final, we would easily beaten them and won the tournament,”
