India vs Bangladesh Test, Day 4, Lunch Report: Ashwin breaks world record

Bangladesh trail by 298 runs, Virat Kohli decides not to enforce the follow-on. India will try and give visitors a gigantic total to chase

India are in control of the Test again as they bundle out Bangladesh in the first session only. Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the much-awaited feat as he got the wicket of centurion Mushfiqur Rahim to become the fastest to reach 250 Test wickets. Indian bowlers started off the Day 4’s proceedings with a bang. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up the wicket of Mehedi Hasan with an in-swinging delivery that rattled the stumps.

Seamers made life tough for Bangladeshi batsmen. Even, Rahim had trouble playing the short ball at the start. Taijul Islam faced a riot of short deliveries from Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma. Yadav tried coming round the wicket and targeted Islam’s body. Islam fought for 37 deliveries but gave his wicket away on the 38th. Yadav got the wicket as the ball brushed the gloves on it’s way to Wriddhiman Saha’s gloves.

After a lot of short stuff from seamers, Kohli introduced spin bowling from both ends. Ravindra Jadeja took the wicket of Taskin Ahmed as the ball edged past his best into slip-fielder Ajinkya Rahane’s hands. Earlier, Ashwin trapped Ahmed in front of stumps but Umpire remained unmoved. India were not left with any reviews otherwise Ashwin would have got his 250th scalp there only.

Kohli has decided not to enforce follow-on. KL Rahul and Murali Vijay will try to play out the new ball and then accelerate in an attempt to give Bangladesh a gigantic target to chase in fourth innings.

Brief Scores: Bangladesh 388 all out ( Mushfiqur Rahim 127, Shakib Al Hasan 82; Umesh Yadav 3 for 84, Ravindra Jadeja 2 for 70) trail India 1/0 (Murali Vijay 1; Taijul Islam 0 for 1) & 687/6 (Virat Kohli 204, Murali Vijay 108; Taijul Islam 3 for 156, Mehedi Hasan 2 for 165) by 298 runs
