Indian cricket team defeated Australia in the 5th and the final ODI of the 5-match bilateral series held by 7 wickets on October 1. After losing the previous game in Bangalore, team India made a solid comeback today at the VCA stadium, Nagpur and ended the series with 4-1. Thanks to Rohit Sharma’s 14th career ODI hundred which carried the Indian inning till the end. With this victory, the Indian Cricket Team not only won the sixth consecutive bilateral ODI series but has also dethroned South Africa from the number 1 position in the ICC ODI rankings and is ruling the world.
Earlier this day, Steven Smith won the third toss in this series and elected to bat first. Openers David Warner and Aaron Finch gave a slow but steady start to the team. By the first 10 overs, Australia had put 60 runs on the scoreboard, however, medium pacer Hardik Panya broke the dangerous-looking partnership as Finch was caught by Jasprit Bumrah at mid-off on the third ball of the 12th over, with Australia at 66/1.

During the middle of the game, Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head anchored the inning very well and built a partnership of 87 for the 5th wicket.
Both the batsmen mixed ones and twos with occasional boundaries to put the visitors back on track. They lifted Australian hopes of finishing the innings with a decent total. But Axar Patel claimed his third victim to break the stand when Head was bowled as he missed the line and length of the ball trying to sweep it in the sixth delivery of the 43rd over.

Two overs later, Stoinis lost his wicket, with Bumrah getting an LBW decision. These two wickets allowed India to contain Australia even in the death overs. The Aussies lost 5 wickets in the last 10 overs while Matthew Wade (20) and James Faulkner (12) did their best to take Australia to 242/9.
Indian openers Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma began the Indian innings where they needed 243 runs to chase. Both Rahane and Rohit gave a slow start to the team but soon they shifted the gear. Rohit Sharma did no mercy on the Aussie bowling attack while Rahane kept on playing his favourite shots from the other end.

The opening pair added 124 runs to the first before Rahane lost his wicket to Nathan Coulter-Nile. It was the third consecutive 100+ runs partnership by any Indian opening pair. Rahane ended up scoring 61 off 74 balls including 7 fours. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma also hit his 3rd half-century in this series.

After Rahane’s dismissal skipper, Virat Kohli walked in to bat while Rohit was charged up to hammer the Australian bowlers more and more. Rohit Sharma got his 14th ODI century and the first in this series. With this century, he also completed 6000 runs in ODI matches.

Both Rohit and Kohli added a total of 99 runs for the 2nd wicket before Rohit was dismissed by Adam Zampa in the 40th over after scoring 125 runs off 109 balls including 5 sixes and 11 fours.

In the 4th ball of the same over, Virat Kohli was caught by Marcus Stoinis at the long-off region and lost his wicket on 39 off 55 balls and the men in blue were reduced to 227/3.

In the end, Kedar Jadhav (5) and Manish Pandey (11) scored the rest of the runs and helped the team win the last match by 7 wickets.
