MS Dhoni's advice from behind the stumps helped me in picking up the hat-trick: Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep didn't come off to a good start as he conceded 39 runs in 7 overs. However, MS Dhoni's instructions backed him and he took the hat-trick in his next over

Kuldeep Yadav became Team India’s new bowling sensation after he took a hattrick against Australia in the 2nd ODI at the Eden Gardens on September 22. After getting hit for a few boundaries in the initial overs, he turned the game upside down in the 33rd over and became the third Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in ODIs and also the second Indian to claim hat-trick against Australia in international cricket.

While speaking at the post-match presentation, he thanked MS Dhoni and skipper Virat Kohli for backing him during that crucial over.

I asked Mahi bhai, what should I bowl. He said ‘tujhe jaisa bhi lagta hai, woh daal (bowl the way you want to)’. I was very happy that he backed me. This is special for me, changed the game for us. Really proud moment. Thanks to Dhoni and Virat Kohli for backing me.

Playing his ninth ODI, Kuldeep didn’t come off to a good start. He conceded 39 runs in 7 overs while the Aussies had an easy target of 251 runs to chase. However, MS Dhoni’s instructions backed him throughout the game. Finally, in his 8th over, he caused the mayhem and dismissed Mattew Wade (2), Ashton Agar (0) and Pat Cummins (0).

Later, while having a chat with teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he revealed that somewhere he also had the advantage of the home ground as he had been playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League and knew the Eden track very well.

He said,

If you are playing at a ground regularly, you get to know the conditions very well. I felt as if I’m playing at my home ground and I wanted to perform well.

Despite putting a low total on the scoreboard, Team India beat the Aussies by 50 runs. Apart from Kuldeep, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also bowled a phenomenal spell and claimed 3 wickets, conceding only 9 runs. Virat Kohli bagged the Man of the Match award for his brilliant knock of 92 runs.
