The Australian Cricket Team finally managed to make a comeback in the series and took the 4th ODI home. The Indian batsmen failed to chase down a huge target of 335 runs in 50 overs and lost the 4th game by 21 runs played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on September 28. This was Australia’s first overseas ODI victory after losing 13 games on the trot. However, Team India is still leading the series by 3-1 with one more match to played in Nagpur on October 1.
Australian captain Steven Smith won the toss and elected to bat first. Just like the Indore ODI, the Aussie openers gave an extraordinary start. David Warner and Aaron Finch put 231 runs on the scoreboard before the first wicket fell down. David Warner, who was playing his 100th ODI, scored a phenomenal century and ended up scoring 124 off 119 runs including 4 sixes and 12 boundaries.

Soon after Warner’s dismissal, Finch lost his wicket to Umesh Yadav and returned to the pavilion after scoring 94 off 96 runs. The next two men, Steven Smith (3) and Travis Head (29) were back to pavilion soon. However, Peter Handscomb and Marcus Stoinis balance the inning towards the end and Australia could manage to put 334 runs on the board.

While chasing a mammoth target of 335 runs, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane opened the Indian inning phenomenally. The duo gave a fiery start to the team and added 106 runs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma scored yet another half-century in this series and scored 65 runs off 55 balls including 5 sixes and 1 four. On the other hand, Rahane continued his good form in this game as well and played an inning of 53 runs off 66 balls and hit 1 six and 6 fours.

India lost its first wicket in the 19th over when Rahane was dismissed by Kane Richardson. 4 overs later, Rohit and skipper Virat Kohli had a confusion while taking a single which resulted in the dismissal of Rohit Sharma.
After 8 more deliveries, India had another blow in the form of Virat Kohli who was clean bowled by Nathan Coulter-Nile after scoring run-a-ball 21.
Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav took the inning ahead from that point and added 75 runs for the 4th wicket before Hardik Pandya was dismissed by Zampa. Pandya ended up scoring 41 runs off 40 balls and hit 3 sixes and a four.
After a long time, Kedar Jadhav performed superbly with the bat and played fine inning along with Manish Pandey in the death overs. Both the batsmen perfectly balanced the inning and took the game closer to victory. Kedar Jadhav scored the 3rd fifty of his career in 54 balls.
In the 42nd over, the rain interrupted the game for a while, however, the play resumed soon.

In the 46th over, Kedar Jadhav was dismissed by Kane Richardson and with this breakthrough, the Aussies made a strong comeback in the game.
Just 2 balls after Jadhav’s delivery, Pandey (33) went back to the pavilion and the men in blue were left with their only hope MS Dhoni.
Dhoni tried his best to finish the game in style but failed to do so. Dhoni (13) was bowled by Richardson while the rest of the tail-enders Axar Patel (5), Mohammad Shami (6) and Umesh Yadav (2) couldn’t do anything special to win the game. The Aussies finally managed to win the first match of the series by 21 runs.
