Ajinkya Rahane faces backlash for promoting Narendra Modi's ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ drive. Twitter flooded with reactions

Eyes will be on Ajinkya Rahane in Shikhar Dhawan's absence and would be hoping he gets back in form

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has kept cleanliness at the top of his agenda, ever since coming to power. ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan’ is no more a hidden secret, it is a way of life. And who better than a cricketer endorsing it in a country where cricket is nothing short of a religion. The Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli has been having a dream run since finishing second best at the ICC Champions Trophy. Since then, they won in West Indies, then Sri Lanka and now they are currently hosting Australia at home in a 5-match One Day International series. India has already taken a handsome 2-0 lead in the series by winning the first ODI by 26 runs and the second by 50 runs.

With India ready to play the third ODI at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, it is expected that Virat Kohli might try out different permutation combinations. For starters, in Shikhar Dhawan’s absence, Ajinkya Rahane has not been able to capitalise and cement his place. The spinners have been the story so far. Yuzvendra Chahal bagged a man the match in the first ODI for his three-for and then Kuldeep Yadav got a hattrick at Eden Gardens. Hardik Pandya too chipped in with the bat and the ball.

But lately, we found a post by BCCI, which shows Ajinkya Rahane is throwing a water bottle in the dustbin. The picture has been posted with a tweet that reads, “Join ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement like @ajinkyarahane88 and participate in #MyCleanIndia #TeamIndia – @narendramodi @PMOIndia @swachhbharat.”

So it seems the cricketers are now coming forward for a cause, which is heartening to see, but then his fans did not like it and backlashed him on the social media site. This was Rahul Johri’s tweet on the 23rd of Septenmber.

Here are the tweets.

Ajinkya Rahane would dearly be hoping he gets back in form and does a favour to himself more than anything. It would be disappointing for his fans to see him fail again and again.
